Five Cat Cuddle Pile

BZTAT's gonna hafta go sleep somewhere else.

So my pals Pimp and Moo over at Your Daily Cute have this thing they call “Two Cats Tuesdays”, where their post on Tuesdays is all about the two of them. I enjoy their posts, but I also admit to bein’ a bit competitive. Now that there’s five of us, I decided I would outdo them with “Fabulous Five Cat Fridays”.

It’s not easy to get us all to fit in one picture, but we did pose this once. As you can see, Okey is startin’ to feel right at home.  We had ourselves quite a cuddle pile.

Okey’s story has kinda inspired a lotta folks, so BZTAT is developin’ a big art project out of it called Okey’s Promise. Hope you will follow along with us on that. I don’t think Okey is gonna blog there herself, but I might let her guest post here now and then if she wants too.

Right now, she’s got enough new adventures to conquer before she takes up bloggin’. (I also hafta keep her away from Rumblepurr and The Birman.)

Oh, and one more thing. The Nu Campaign with Nulo is complete, but the good schtuff is still comin’. We are continuin’ with the Nulo as it really seems to have benefited all of us.

And did you hear? Noah was the biggest loser, or winner, dependin’ on how ya look at it! Of all the pets in the Nu Campaign, Noah lost the highest percentage of body weight (15%), going from 20 pounds to 17 pounds! I am so proud of him.

He is stayin’ steady at 17 lbs., but I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps losin’. Since there’s 5 of us now, I notice that he is playin’ a bit more. Okey really keeps us all stirred up in a good way. And the Nulo has really helped put some meat on her skinny little bones. She has really filled out, and her fur is real soft.

OK, nuff said. I go some nappin’ to do. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzz….

NoahSomethin’ weird happened folks.

Last week I told ya that Noah didn’t lose any weight. He stayed steady at 18.2 lbs. Up until then, he was losin’ 0.2 lbs. each week.

Then this week, he starts droppin’ it like crazy.

Saturday, he was at 17.6 lbs. Tuesday, he was at 17.4. Today?

17 POUNDS!!!! Can you even believe it???

We have not changed his Nulo food portions any recently. And honestly, BZTAT and I have been a bit distracted with her moving the studio back here into our home and with Okey, the new cat.

We haven’t been execrcisin’ Noah anymore than we had before. In fact, we have been doin’ it less.

I have noticed, though, that Noah has been more active on his own. He seems to be more energetic and more engagin’. He has been a bit intimidated by Okey, and has stayed his distance, but he has been definitely been more vivacious.

YAY Noah!!! Throughout the entire Nu Campaign, he has lost 3 lbs.!

Although this is the final week, we have decided to stay with the Nulo. We are big fans of the schtuff! Here’s our list of things we all like about Nulo:

  1. VERY NOMMY! I mean, really, if it didn’t taste good, what would be the point? I know I was a little hesitant that first week, as, well, ya know, I am a creature of habit. But once I got used to the different texture, I fell in love with the schtuff!
  2. Noah lost weight in a careful and healthy way. He didn’t lose it fast, which was a bit disconcerting, but it really is healthier to lose it slowly. Although this week’s loss was rapid because things finally came together fur him (exercise, feeling healthier and portion control), overall, it was gradual.
  3. All of us have shinier, softer and more luxurious fur. Even Okey, who has just been on it fur a short time, has already been feelin’ softer and her fur is gettin’ thicker. Noah’s fur used to be all matted and nasty, and now, it is much easier to get a comb and Furminator through his coat.
  4. We like the story of how Nulo was developed. The founder, Michael Landa, saw that pets of clients in his pet sitting business were having health issues related to the ingredients in over the counter pet foods, so he set out to create a food that didn’t have all the unhealthy ingredients. The food he developed is truly healthy and we trust that it is good fur us. Nulo was created out of a passion fur pets, not because someone wanted to cash in on sellin’ us crap.
  5. We like the packaging. The food comes in resealable plastic bags that keep it fresh and are good fur litter box clean-up when they are empty. Reusing bags is a good thing fur the environment, yo. We like the red Nulo boxes, too, which are a good size fur storage. They came in handy with BZTAT movin’ the studio around.
  6. The Nulo folks are top notch! They are always helpful and caring when we have questions, and they really care about us! We especially like that they send us an email that says, “Love is coming your way” each time we make an order!

Although the Nu Campaign is officially over, I will still keep ya posted on how Noah is doin’ with his weight loss. We would like to get him down at least one more pound, maybe two.

We are very appreciative of Nulo fur includin’ us in the Nu Campaign and fur givin’ us all the free food! We look forward to continuin’ our relationship with the great folks at Nulo in the future.

sleeping catsOK. I confess. I’ve been asleep on the job.

Noah didn’t lose any weight this week. He didn’t gain any either, which is good, but still…

He is still at 18.2 lbs. I guess I got a little lazy at bein’ his personal trainer this week.  What can I meow? It’s been a busy week.

BZTAT decided to close her studio storefront and move it back into our home, so that’s got things a little crazy here. She is also openin’ up a new gallery with the great folks at Embrace Pet Insurance in Beachwood, OH, which is very excitin’! You can read all about these developments here.

And then there’s the new cat.

Okey the Parking Lot Kitty is now Okey the Studio Cat. Okey was rescued last week and brought inside the studio.

I haven’t met Okey yet, but BZTAT says she will come upstairs and stay in the extra room sometime this weekend. And BZTAT is talkin’ like Okey might be stayin’…

We are very appreciative of all the folks who donated funds so we could get Okey to a vet and get the works done. She was spayed yesterday, and she is resting comfortably today.

OkeyUp until yesterday (because of the surgery) she has been eatin’ the same Nulo noms we have been eatin’, and she seems to be gettin’ healthier already! Thanks to Nulo fur helpin’ us rescue Okey and get her back to good health.

Oh, yeah. One other thing.

Nulo has a special promotion to help shelter pets fur Thanksgiving that I wanted to share with ya too!

NoahHe still is not too fit and trim, but Noah does seem to be losin’ weight! He is losin’ about 0.2 lbs. a week. Today’s weigh-in had him at 18.2 lbs.

We’d like to get him down to at least 16 lbs., which will take awhile at this rate, but we are in it fur the long haul.

Go Noah!

We are all enjoyin’ the Nulo food and are very thankful fur the support the Nulo team has given us through the Nu Campaign.

BTW–We are in the process of tryin’ to get Okey the Parking Lot Kitty off the streets. We have had very generous donations to his care. Thx to all who have donated!!! You can read about the donations here if you are interested.

Plans are to take him to One of a Kind Pet Rescue to see a V-E-T to get all the necessary shots and, er, um, surgeries, taken care of once he has been retrieved from the streets.

Once he we have a clear picture of his health, we plan to seek an adoptive home fur Okey. Cute as he is, we already have 4 cats here, and just really can’t take another.

Okey has been enjoyin’ some of the Nulo food too, although, BZTAT has been tryin’ to entice him with some more pungent noms to get him off the streets.

Retrievin’ him from the streets is not provin’ to be a very easy process, though. BZTAT has a live trap cage provided by a local rescuer, but he was none too interested in gettin’ into it to get the TUNA at the back. This morning, he was not in his usual area, so we are not sure what is up, but will keep ya posted.

My human BZTAT called me a lazy lump the other day.

She posted this photo of Who (front left), Slick (front right), Noah (back right) and me (back left) on her Facebook page as evidence. The NERVE of her!  I mean really! Isn’t sleeping all day a cat’s job???

OK, I do confess that I have been a bit lazy about my blogging lately, but, ya know, sleeping is hard work. I hafta rest after all the training I have been doin’ with Noah.

Speaking of which, Noah continues to lose a little bit of weight each week, slowly but surely. He is now at 18.4 lbs.

Looking at this photo, you might think Who looks a bit portly too, but his belly is more floof than it is belly. We still can’t feel Noah’s ribs. He’s all belly.

And Slick? Well she looks all too comfy here. I need to disrupt THAT somehow.

Oh, yeah, there’s a new kid on our block too. Okey.

Okey is a cat who lives in the parking lot behind our building. There’s another building back there called the Okey Law Firm, and Okey has a nice fenced in yard there.

He roams the streets in downtown Canton, and BZTAT has seen him as far as 8 blocks away. There is a lotta traffic in our area, so that is not a real good thing.

BZTAT just discovered his lair last night. She gave him some french fries, which he gobbled up from her hand, but he didn’t hang around to get friendly. She tried to catch him and it freaked him out. He’s keepin’ his distance fur now.

She gave him some of our Nulo food and he really nommed on it big time.

We don’t want the Nulo folks to think we are gonna take advantage of their graciousness and feed the whole neighborhood, but we hope they don’t mind if we share a bit with Okey to help put some meat on his bones.

Okey's Lair

Okey's Lair

Poor Okey is as scrawny as a cat can be. He has the opposite problem that Noah has.

BZTAT is gonna leave a small bit of food where he stays each day to see if we can get him healthy enough to become a pet fur someone.

We are also gonna set up a donation fund fur him so that we can get him to see a VET to make sure he is all OK inside. I’ll let ya know more about that.

We are gonna try to Be the Change fur Okey.

UPDATE: You can read about the fund to help Okey here if you would like to donate. Thx!

NoahHe’s never gonna be small folks. He never was, even as a kitten, so I am told.

I am happy to report, though, he is gettin’ smaller ounce by ounce.

At my last report, my big furry bro Noah was 18.8 lbs. Today he is 18.6. It is a gradual loss, but it is a loss.

He is gettin’ weighed daily, and he has not gone back upwards in awhile.

His portions of the Nulo food have been cut back a bit, and I have continued to be his personal trainer. I get him some good exercise chasin’ the squirrel on a string every day now.

Things are lookin’ up. Or down, as it may be, as in his poundage.

C’mon Noah! There goes that squirrel!!! Whack, whack, whack!

Sorry folks. Gotta run.

ZOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!!

Crossed pawsOK, I am keepin’ my paws crossed that this time Noah really has made some progress.

Much to his chagrin, he gets weighed every day now (he hates it). His portions of his Nulo food have been decreased, and we have been exercisin’ every day too.

It isn’t a whole lot, but for 2 days, he has been at 18.8 lbs. That is the lowest he has been so far. He started at 20.0.

Doesn’t seem like he has lost a lot, but remember, he would be a big cat even if he wasn’t overweight. And just like humans, you hafta work up to exercise. He wears out fast.

We will keep on him, because we are committed to getting him back to a healthy weight. We sure are appreciative of all the support we have received from the Nulo folks in that endeavor.

We are likin’ Nulo fur a lot of reasons other than its weight loss benefits, too.

As I mentioned before, it seems to agree with my stomach better than the schtuff I was eatin’ before. I have not had any barfisodes after meals since we started the Nu Campaign.

It has made a big difference with all of our furs. We are all much softer now. BZTAT actually Furminated Noah yesterday and did not have any injuries!  He usually gets all upset and sinks his teeth and claws into her hands or arms. Noah was pretty chill about gettin’ groomed, cuz the Furminator and the comb went through his fur much more easily.

And we don’t eat as much, so the food lasts a lot longer.

All in all, we have good things to say about Nulo, no matter what happens with Noah’s diet. But we are gonna keep after him to lose his girth.

I got my paws crossed that it will happen sooner than later.

Noah

"Noah" Digital Art by BZTAT

*Sigh*

Big ol’ Noah is stayin’ around 19 lbs. folks, despite the fact that we are all tryin’ to get him slimmer and more fit.

The Nulo food has made a difference in his fur, as it is softer and he seems to be groomin’ himself better. We are all nommin’ the schtuff like crazy, as we all are  lovin’ the flavor and are adjusted to the texture.

But Noah is not losin’ weight.

I have been readin’ the blogs of the other Nu Campaigners, and it does seem that the dogs are havin’ more success than the cats. You have no IDEA how hard it is fur me to admit THAT.

I have my suspicions as to why. I don’t think it is because of the food. I don’t think it has anything to do with the differences in species. I think it has more to do with the humans.

I think cat people are more lazy than dog people. Or at least they are more lazy when it comes to interactin’ with their pets.

Cat people often choose cats as pets cuz we are more independent and require less maintenance. Cat people tend to be busy and are happy to have pets that can take care of themselves.

We don’t hafta go run around outside and sniff all the other cats in the neighborhood’s pee. We don’t hafta go out fur walks. We don’t get all willy nilly excited and jump all over people. We don’t hafta be trained to act right.

Our strength can be our consequence, though.

Because we are self maintaining, our humans sometimes overlook the fact that some of us need help with exercising. Noah is one of those that needs help.

Noah stopped exercisin’ after he had a surgery at age 2 to remove a plastic bag he had nommed from his stomach. He seemed to slow down after that.

I remember, too, a time where he tried to jump up on a filing cabinet that Slick and I frequented. His jump failed, and he body slammed the filing cabinet. He never tried again after that.

Maine Coon cats are more pouncers than they are jumpers, but he didn’t seem to want to listen to my efforts to ease his humiliation. Noah quit tryin’ to do the schtuff that Slick and I could do with ease.

Anyways, I have decided to challenge both Noah and our human BZTAT to up their game. The Nu Campaign is about overall wellness and the diet is just one component of it.

It is time to get fit guys!

Check out my moves as Noah’s personal trainer:

Noah

Drawing by BZTAT

Noah’s is a face that is hard to resist, isn’t it? Humans look at this drawing that BZTAT made of him, and they just wanna go “coochy, coochy, goo!!!”

When ya see the rest of him, though, ya go, “Wow! That’s a BIG cat!”

Even after 7 weeks with Nulo, he is a big cat. His weight has remained pretty much the same, I am afraid to report. It kinda fluctuates from 19 t0 21lbs., depending on when he is weighed and when his last feeding was.

To be honest, we are not hugely surprised. He has been on prescription diets before and not lost weight. And this go around has been interrupted by BZTAT’s travels away from us on two occasions.

BZTAT has kept to the portion control while she has been in town. She is considering cutting it back a bit, but we hafta be careful about that.

Noah starts eating things he shouldn’t when he doesn’t get as much food as he wants. He likes to chew on plastic bags, and one time had to have one surgically removed from his tummy. The recovery from that surgery actually is what kicked off his weight problems.

Nulo isn’t just about losing weight though. It is about eating healthy. It is about getting exercise. It is about making sure that pets get nutrients and important food schtuffs and not all the junk that gets put into pet foods these days.

All of us are really likin’ the food now, and BZTAT is likin’ that our furs are much softer than before. She is likin’ the fact that our food is fresh and comes to us soon after it is made. It doesn’t sit on warehouse and store shelves for months before it gets to us. She is also likin’ the fact that she knows the people at Nulo really care about us and other pets.

Our customer service rep Julie made a special call last week to check on Noah to make sure he was doin’ better with his “output” issues. (He is all better now. Thanks Julie fur carin’ about how he was feelin’!)

Pet obesity is a serious issue, as it can lead to so many different health concerns for animals. We are glad to have a partner like Nulo to help us help Noah with his weight, because we know that they really care and understand the problems associated with pet obesity. We will keep workin’ with them to help Noah with this adventure.

Check out this great article on MSNBC featuring comments by Nulo founder Michael Landa about why he started the company.

We have been doin’ the Nu Campaign fur a little over a month now. Seems like longer than that cuz we have had a lotta schtuff happenin’ in that month.

Not sure that the timing was the best, actually, cuz my human, BZTAT, has gone travelin’ twice in that month.

And her travelin’ affects us.

She didn’t used to travel so much. Because of that, we’ve grown accustomed to her always bein’ here.

When she leaves fur awhile and someone else comes in to feed and check on us, it upsets our usual balance.

Noah gets especially freaked out. He is afraid of people other than BZTAT and he hides when our sitter checks in.

I hide too, but I have been gettin’ more used to the sitter and have been comin’ out to greet her. She is kinda nice, and she does bring me noms.

Noah had some extra troubles, though, this last trip.

Now, I don’t really like to go into detail about other cats’ personal matters. But since Romeo the Cat bragged about his “output”, I will touch on the subject just fur a moment.

Let’s just meow that Noah had output “issues” while BZTAT was in Denver on this last trip. And I am not meowin’ about the “pees” that Mr. Scrubby does when his human travels.

I am meowin’ about messy poop issues.

Nuff said.

We thought maybe it was the food cuz we did change flavors while BZTAT was gone. But since it hasn’t happened again since she got back, we are thinkin’ that it was the stress of her bein’ gone.

(I am workin’ the guilt factor on her, in case you wondered.)

Noah hasn’t lost anymore weight, but he hasn’t gained any either. He stayed steady at 19.8 lbs., even though he ate more while BZTAT was gone.

I am really likin’ the Nulo, as are Slick, Who and Noah.

And our furs are all much softer since we started it.

*Preens* The lady cats who couldn’t keep their paws off before just won’t be able to stand it now…

Just Meowin…
